Great Egret Photos

My Favorite: A lot of people probably don't realize that we have so many "tropical" looking herons and egrets in South Dakota. Great Egrets are pretty common in the eastern part of the state, yet how can you resist taking a photo when you see one? My favorite photo is one that shows not just a Great Egret, but it's smaller cousin the Snowy Egret. The Great Egrets present here definitely dominated the much smaller Snowy Egrets, with this picture showing the start of a confrontation when the Great Egret flew over, landed next to the Snowy Egret, and the drove it off. From June 19th, 2020 near Lake Madison in southeastern South Dakota.
