My Favorite: In South Dakota, this is simply an impossible species to get close to. The only South Dakota photos I have are from long range, or were taken in a blind at Dewey Gevik Nature Area. However, when visiting Alaska in 2014, I came across a very cooperative male at "Potter's Marsh"...a favorite spot to visit when I'm in Anchorage, just south of town. He was quite busy doing what dabbling ducks do, and not paying me much attention. A gray, overcast day, but at least I was able to get a close photo of the species.
