My Favorite: I started birding in 2000, and it took me until 2007 to get my first real look at a Yellow-billed Cuckoo. In the years since I've occasionally heard the faint calls from a distant bird, but hearing one up close has been rare, much less actually seeing one. In 2018 and 2020 though, I had two absolutely spectacular, close looks at one, and was able to get some great photos in warm morning light on each occasion. My favorite photo is the one below from August 2nd, 2020 at the Madison Waterfowl Production Area in South Dakota.
