My Favorite: Drop-dead gorgeous. These little guys just POP out from the surrounding landscape when you see one. Given that they're birds of the deciduous forest, you're a bit limited where you see them here. All of the photos below are from Newton Hills State Park, the best location in my part of the state to find eastern woodland birds. Here's a gorgeous male in perfect plumage, posing on a bit of dead sumac.
