American Golden Plovers are a species I don't see all that often...maybe every other year in spring migration? And usually when I see them, it's a skittish flock foraging far out in an open (usually freshly plowed) field. As a result, I really didn't have many good photos of them...until now! I was birding up by Lake Thompson on May 10th, 2025, and saw a flock take off from a plowed field as I drove by. However, this time, they settled right back down into the field, and didn't seem to mind as I sat on the side of the road and snapped photos. BEAUTIFUL birds, particularly in the breeding plumage.
