My Favorite: A nemesis! Some years I don't see them at all. Some springs I see quite a few of them! However, they've always been a rather nervous species for me, never allowing close approach, and rarely giving any opportunity to get photographs. I've really only had a couple of occasions to get even halfway recognizable photos of American Golden Plovers...in October of 2014 when a few non-breeding plumage birds appeared, and in May of 2018, a spring when it seemed like every other wet field had American Golden Plovers. My favorite is of course of a breeding plumaged bird, taken in a flooded field during that 2018 spring. I love taking photos of shorebirds, but few can match the beauty of a summer plumage American Golden Plover. Gloomy, miserable light, but I was glad to finally get ANY photo of a breeding plumaged bird. Taken on May 12th, 2018 in Lincoln County, South Dakota.
