Blue Grosbeak

Photo of the Week (June 4th, 2021)

(archive photos of the week here)

It's always a bit of a surprise when you run across a Blue Grosbeak. I don't find them particularly rare or anything, it's just that incredible splash of blue stands out so much from what you otherwise see when walking or driving in a rural area in eastern South Dakota.  This is the most cooperative Blue Grosbeak I've ever had the pleasure of seeing and photographing, from western Minnehaha County.
