I wasn't quite sure what species I was seeing when initially encountering these guys during our stay at the "Rainforest Canopy Treehouses" near Tarzali. It rained the whole time we were there, and the light was poor under the rainforest canopy. I'm not sure if it was the light, or if the birds I was seeing were young birds without full adult plumage, but none of the birds I saw had the bright emerald green of the species' namesake. In natural light (see first photo below), they had a green hue (but not brilliantly "emerald"). However, I often needed to use my flash to enable the taking of any photos under the forest canopy, and in flashed light, the plumage on the back was a rich rusty brown.
