We saw Australian King Parrots when we stayed at the Promised Land Retreat near Bellingen. Every morning they'd fly in and feed in several of the landscaping trees around the main residence. However, they were VERY shy, and didn't ever let me get all that close. I wondered if I'd lost my chance to photograph the species, but I shouldn't have worried!
We stayed at the Rainforest Canopy Treehouses near Tarzali at the end of the trip, where the owner gives you fruit and seed to attract critters. Within 20 minutes of arriving at our treehouse and putting out food, they came...a big flock of Australian King Parrots! And shy, they were NOT! They would take food directly from your hand, and some were brave enough to actually sit on your arm, your head, your shoulder, etc. Gorgeous birds, and I'm so glad we got the chance to see them from so close.
