Greater Roadrunner Photos

Photography by Terry Sohl

My Favorite: For a South Dakota guy, you wouldn't think a Greater Roadrunner would be a nemesis bird for me, given Oklahoma is about as close as they get to us here. But we do love our vacations in the Desert Southwest, and despite all of those trips to Arizona, despite all the sightings of Greater Roadrunners over the years, the only photos I have are of this one bird, from the grounds of the Phoenix Botanical Gardens. He was too busy chasing little lizards to worry about the guy with the camera, although I wish he'd have given me some better poses. My favorite is this over-the-shoulder look at me, showing off that beautiful plumage and facial pattern. From December 2018.
