Spearfish Canyon and the little tributaries feeding into it are just so beautiful...probably my favorite place in South Dakota. Fly fishing and birding, in a gorgeous setting...what could beat it? American Dippers are often said to be very good indicators of water quality, as they are one of the first species to go when water quality declines. Not a problem in Spearfish Creek, with crystal clear water, and lush vegetation in and around the creek's waters. This photo was taken on July 8th, 2008 below Roughlock Falls, with Canon 20D, 400 5.6L.
