The park on the west side of the river (reached through crossing a footbridge across the river) is primarily covered by open grassland, with scattered patches of trees and shrubs. This is a good place to look for grassland species not found on the eastern side of the park. There are a couple of wetter meadows where Sedge Wrens can be found. This is one of the few spots near Sioux Falls where I have seen Short-eared Owls.
