My Favorite: The Tucson, Arizona area is one of our favorite places to vacation, and we've been there a number of times over the years. The month of May can be a glorious time for a visit as the temperatures are still not QUITE as scorching as they are a month or two later, but from a birding perspective, the summer "goodies" have all arrived, including the wonderful hummingbird diversity you can get in many areas near the border. It's also a great time because the saguaro cacti are in bloom. The huge blooms themselves are a terrific sight, but they also attract birds, including this female Gilded Flicker from May of 2008, on the outskirts of Tucson.
