My Favorite: White-winged Scoters are a species that breeds on freshwater lakes and ponds throughout much of Canada and Alaska, and of the scoter species, are the ones that are most likely to be seen in South Dakota. However, they normally over-winter on the coasts of the United States, so very few move through South Dakota in migration, and I have had few opportunities to photograph them. All of the photos below are of one bird I found below Oahe Dam near Pierre in November of 2019.
