My Favorite: My favorite current photo of a Ring-necked Duck is a favorite both because it shows both the male and female together in some interesting, muted lighting, but also because of the location. I've had conferences and other meetings in San Francisco a number of times, and while there, I sometimes have done some birding. One place that's right on the edge of the city itself is the "Sutro Bath" area along the coast. At the turn of the century it was a big stone bathhouse, built amidst a rocky shoreline. Fire destroyed the building 100 years ago, but the stone footings still remain. The "bath" area itself is now protected from the ocean just 20 yards away, and is a little freshwater oasis that often seems to hold ducks and other birds.
