Neotropic Cormorant Photos

Photography by Terry Sohl

My Favorite: Neotropic Cormorants are but rare visitors to South Dakota. I have one encounter in the state, on Lake Thompson, where I saw a small cormorant lounging near other, larger cormorants, and I'm 95% sure it was a Neotropic Cormorant, but I was unfortunately unable to get a confirmation photo before it flew away. Thus, while I have no "official" sightings (or photographs) in South Dakota, at least I do have some good photos of the species on a visit to the Gilbert Water Ranch in Phoenix Arizona in December of 2018 (absolutely awesome birding location if you ever get the chance).
