Mallard Photos

My Favorite: Mallards are a common species that I guess you sometimes take for granted, particularly since they often are found hanging around as semi-tame birds in parks and urban lakes. As you can see by the photos below, I went about 10 years at one point without really taking any photos of them! I actually do like some of the really early 2002 photos below, which are some of the few still on my site that were taken with digiscoping. My favorite though is the one below. Perfect morning, no wind, dead still water, gorgeous early morning light, and a cooperative male Mallard in perfect condition...couldn't have asked for more. From April 2018 in Lincoln County, South Dakota.
