My Favorite: American Black ducks are 1) not a common sight in South Dakota, as they're normally found in the eastern US, and 2) are declining in number. I've only seen them a couple of times in the state, and have only been able to photograph them once, when the bird below was seen in a small pond on the west side of Sioux Falls, in November of 2018. None of the photos are award winning quality, as most are taken from some distance! My favorite is the one below, as it provides the contrast in appearance between the American Black Duck on the right, and the mallard pair on the left.
