Common Yellowthroat Photos

My Favorite: Common Yellowthroats are indeed...very common in South Dakota during the summer months. In wetland areas with dense vegetation, their songs are a common sound of summer. They have a reputation as a skulker, a species more easily heard than seen. I haven't found that necessarily to be the case. They do normally stick to the vegetation, but they're not shy of a human presence like many birds. Hanging out in a car, for example, next to a wetland is a great way to photograph them, because they do forget about the car or the person in it, and you can often capture photos of them as they go about their daily business. The photo below is probably my favorite, given then nice clear look at the bird, the fact that's a fully mature male in its beautiful prime plumage, and the interesting background.
