My Favorite: For a species that's not really supposed to be found in South Dakota, they are awfully reliable and easy to find. The catch...there's really only one spot in the state where they're always found...a small patch of ground in Newton Hills State Park. It's a rather non-descript, semi-open area with scattered eastern red cedar and sumac, the same kind of habitat that's found in a number of other places in eastern South Dakota, but for some reason Blue-winged Warblers return to this same exact location year after year. The photo below is of a bird in this area, taken on May 16th, 2015.
