My Favorite: One of the most elegant and beautiful sparrow species for me, Lark Sparrows are one that I don't regularly see. My favorite photo below shows one perched on a piece of granite on a VERY hot July day. It may look like the bird is singing, but in fact it just a posture many birds take when trying to deal with heat, given they don't perspire or have other ways to cool down. From July 3rd, 2005 at Perry Nature Area near Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
