My Favorite: It's absolutely amazing how Bald Eagle populations have rebounded. I'm now not surprised to see them anywhere in South Dakota, at any season. There's even a nest less than a mile from our house, and I often see them from our yard. However, the most memorable encounter was at Potter's Marsh south of Anchorage, Alaska. I was sitting on the ground next to the water, watching nesting Mew Gulls, when I saw a circling Bald Eagle. He dropped lower, and lower, and soon was dive bombing a nest RIGHT in front of me. I'm a little shocked the photo turned out sharp, given what a surprise it was! He ended up missing the Mew Gull, and then sat there for a moment, right in front of me, before realizing there was some bozo with a camera! Very cool to see at such incredibly close range.
