My Favorite: Chukar are an
introduced species in North America, including in South Dakota where several
introduction attempts have been made. It's unclear as to whether of those
introductions have been successful, but it's thought that they have not been.
Thus, sightings in South Dakota are generally considered escapees from captive
populations, or birds released for hunting. The photos below are the only
time I've seen a Chukar in South Dakota, on the outskirts of Sioux Falls in
October of 2006.
