My Favorite: I love these guys. I've seen them many times, both in southern Arizona, and on frequent business trips to the San Francisco area. They're colorful little guys, hanging out near water on a prominent perch, flying out periodically to capture passing insects. The photos below are all from the San Francisco area, including many from the "Sutro Baths" area along the coast. It's a cool little birding spot, with the remains of old baths from the early 1900s. The higher part now permanently holds a little freshwater pond that attracts birds, including Black Phoebes that often hang out near the water's edge. Here a Black Phoebe has chosen a cool perch, a rusty bit of iron from the baths. Taken on December 18th, 2008.
