My Favorite: Such an
interesting story with this species. The first time I saw one in South Dakota
was 2004. They had become established in the United States in the preceding
years and were rapidly spreading in range. They were few and far between back
then, but as the years have gone one, they've become more and more common.
Today, it's hard to go out birding and NOT run across Eurasian Collared Doves.
They must be filling some niche, something a bird like the Mourning Dove isn't
filling, as they are around all year long, and you don't often see them
associated with Mourning Doves. In pretty much any town with a grain
elevator, you'll find some hanging around the area. The photo below is
from Oldham, South Dakota in 2012.
