My Favorite: Great-tailed Grackles
are a relatively new arrival in South Dakota. When I first started birding in
2000, it was a species that was expanding their range northward (ahem...climate
change), and was just starting to regularly be found in southern parts of
the state. The photo below is from Lincoln County, South Dakota, and
provides a nice look at the overall structure of a male Great-tailed Grackle and
that glorious tail.
