My Favorite: Clearly not a species you're going to find in South Dakota! But they are a species I've seen multiple times on trips to Alaska. All the photos below are from birds offshore from Seward Alaska. My favorite is the breeding plumage bird shown below, taken in May 2014. While you can see Marbled Murrelets from shore near Seward, they typically aren't really close to land, or depart when someone approaches. This one was uncharacteristically cooperative!
