Petrified wood is pretty easy to find on the Buffalo Gap National Grasslands, including some really good-sized chunks. The majority of that looks like the first few pieces here, with a grayish overall tone and a very obvious grain pattern that is sometimes so fresh, you'd swear the pieces were contemporary and not petrified. Other pieces are not so obvious, particularly some of the 'agatized' pieces that have some wonderful colors.
