It's been a good winter for raptors on the Fort Pierre National Grasslands in central South Dakota. As always, the predominant raptor is the Rough-legged Hawk. In one eBird track in February, covering 9.7 miles in half an hour...I logged 47 (!!!!!!!) Rough-legged Hawks!!! Such beautiful birds, particularly given the wide variety of plumages they have. This is one of those 47 during that short-eBird track.
