A view from the start of the auto-route tour at LaCreek National Wildlife Refuge, looking back towards the north at the park headquarters themselves. Any visit to LaCreek almost demands some time on the auto-route tour. It's such easy access, and moves a birder right through the heart of some of the best habitat in the park. The photo below shows you an example of some of the habitat you can find in the park, with shallow wetlands shown here, but there are also deeper pools and more open water that you'll find in the park, including on the auto route tour.
The wetlands themselves may hold waterfowl, herons, shorebirds, and others, but also keep an eye out for songbirds in the scattered shrubs that are along the roads for part of the auto tour route.
