Another place I always check out when I visit the Gavin's Point Dam area is the marina, on the northeast corner of Lewis and Clark Reservoir. there's a long breakwater/jetty that you can drive out on. For a start, the jetty seems to be a favorite place for gulls to hang out, so it's a good place to look for some rare ones. The water in the marina itself sometimes has birds, and I've seen Common Loons and a Red-necked Grebe in the marina itself. The lake itself, just off the jetty, has also been a very good place to look for waterfowl. There's not a huge amount of great shorebird habitat right around Gavin's Point dam itself, but the sandy beach area near the marina is a spot where I've occasionally seen some shorebirds in migration, and it also seems to be a favorite hangout for gulls at times.
