Chief White Crane Recreation Area has a LOT of campsites scattered throughout, as well as a few nice little cabins to rent on the lake. The campground area itself has some nice large trees, and in winter, there are often Bald Eagles roosting in them. On the edges of the camping area is much thicker forest, which is great to tromp through if you're up for it. I frankly haven't been birding here in the spring, but I'd bet it's great for forest species migrants. Most of the time I've spent there has been late fall and winter. On more than one occasion, I've surprised a Northern Goshawk, and it's no wonder they're attracted to the area, given all the winter songbirds that seem to use this area.
A winter's view of the entrance to Chief White Crane Recreation Area. The gate is closed in the winter, which means it's a wonderful quiet area for walking through and birding.
