Marbled Godwit

Limosa fedoa

On April 23rd, 2020 at Lake Thompson in Kingsbury County, South Dakota, I set up my chair blind on the shoreline, hoping to capture some photos of the abundant shorebirds that were migrating through the area. It was a great day, with both Hudsonian and Marbled Godwits flying and foraging near the blind, as well as other shorebird species. Marbled Godwits were the exception compared to the other shorebird species, in that they actually breed in South Dakota. And on this day, they were definitely in a courtship mood. The photo below is of a Marbled Godwit chasing another, while intermittently calling.
