Sandhill Crane

These two adult Sandhill Cranes were also tending a single colt (first-year crane) in the dry northern part of Yellowstone National Park, just east of Mammoth Hot Springs.  Not the closest portrait or anything, but it does show the dry habitat that these birds do seem to utilize in the summer in Yellowstone.  There were large numbers of grasshoppers in this part of the park...probably what draws these birds.  Taken with Canon 20D, 400 5.6L.
