Virginia Cascade

On the road between the Norris and Canyon junctions in Yellowstone National Park is a little 2-mile side route called Virginia Cascade Drive.  It's amazing in Yellowstone that despite the summer crowds, 95% of people never seem to venture more than 100 meters from a road, and even a little side road like this gets much less attention than the main roads.  It's a beautiful little drive, first going through burnt forest before entering unburned forest around Virginia Cascade itself, and then going past a drop-dead gorgeous little meadow with the Gibbon River flowing through it.

Virginia Cascade itself is gorgeous, but somewhat difficult to properly view (and photograph).  There are no pullouts on the narrow road downstream of the falls, and mature trees obscure part of the view.  Still a gorgeous little setting though.  Photo taken with Canon 20D, 17-40L, on August 3rd, 2007.
