South Scalloped Spring

South Scalloped Spring is right along the banks of the Firehole River in the Upper Geyser Basin in Yellowstone National Park.  It was named for the scalloped edge of mineral deposits. 

South Scalloped Spring has a sister, Scalloped Spring, which has had it's activity change in the last several years after at least two different bison fell in it and died!  It's amazing how many bison tracks you see running right through all the thermal features, so it's definitely no wonder that every once in a while, one will fall in, or break through a thin mineral crust into the water below.
