Sapphire Pool

The area around Sapphire Pool is why the Biscuit Basin was so named, as the pool used to be surrounded by biscuit shaped mineral deposits.  The big 1959 earthquake changed the character of the pool, causing it to violently erupt as a geyser to heights of over 150 feet.  The size of the pool doubled, destroying the 'biscuits' surrounding the outside of the pool.  Sapphire Pool has since calmed down, but still bubbles and boils occasionally. Photo taken on August 5th, 2007 with Canon 20D, 17-40L.
