Excelsior Geyser Crater

In the 1800s, Excelsior Geyser was the largest known geyser in the world.  It erupted truly massive amounts of water...over 200 feet in diameter, eruptions would sometimes reach 300 feet high.   It since went dormant, only ever becoming active as a geyser for a short time in the 1980s (and to much lower heights than the 1800s level).  It remains a truly massive hot spring however, bubbling up over 4,000 gallons a minute!  The overflowing water from the geyser crater flows outward and eventually into the Firehole River.
