Crested Pool
Crested Pool, in the Upper Geyser Basin near Old Faithful, is named for the crested of mineral deposits around it's rim. It's a deep hot spring...42 feet deep...and while it mostly just simmers and boils a bit, at times it can boil violently enough to form a dome of water 8 to 10 feet high!
Sadly, Crested Pool is also known as one of the thermal features in Yellowstone which has taken a life. A 9-year old boy accidentally fell into the pool in 1970 and died.
Taken on August 6th, 2007 with Canon 20D, 17-40L.
