South Dakota Birds and Birding Devoted to Birds, Birding, and Photography |
This photo was taken on March 12th, 2003, along the Platte River near Kearney, Nebraska. I had a business trip to Rolla, Missouri, and took a slight (just a few hundred miles in total!!) detour to drive through the Platte River area in central Nebraska. I was a bit early for the peak of the Sandhill Cranes, although there were thousands of them present. For Snow Geese, I was right at the peak, as there were thousands upon thousands of the things. This small photo doesn't quite do this justice, as there are layer upon layer of these guys as far as you can see in the sky. Definitely was worth getting up before dawn this day. Taken with Nikon Coolpix 4500 digital camera.
