Killdeer Photos

Photography by Terry Sohl

My Favorite: Killdeer are one of those underappreciated species, one that provides a lot of color and "life" when they're around. And when they're around, they certainly let you know it! There's a reason their scientific name is Charadrius vociferous. My favorite photo of the species is from the shores of Wall Lake in western Minnehaha County, on an icy morning where the shoreline itself had some cool ice crystals that had formed. From April 14th, 2019.
