Rough-legged Hawk Photo

This photo of a Rough-legged Hawk was taken on January 4th, 2009 on the  Fort Pierre National Grasslands in South Dakota.  This is the same bird as Rough-legged Hawk #13, right when he first landed in the grass next to my car and started beating the bushes for a mouse/vole underneath the snow.  Very cool to watch him stomp the snow trying to get it, only 20 feet in front of me.    Photo taken with Canon 50D, 400 5.6L.
