This photo of a Short-tailed Hawk was taken on December 10th, 2012 in Everglades National Park in Florida. It's not the greatest photo in the world, as this guy was soaring quite high in the sky. However, the Short-tailed Hawk is a pretty rare bird in the United States. They are found in the tropics, and in the U.S., are only found in small numbers in southern Florida, where the total population may be 500 or less. I was thus quite happy to get ANY photo of one!!
A "birder's" photo for me, more than a "photographer's" photo!! Taken with Canon 50D, 400 5.6L lens.
