Osprey Photo

There were two osprey below Gavin's Point Dam (South Dakota/Nebraska border) on this day, both very actively fishing, and both pretty much ignoring the dozens of fishermen in boats and on the shoreline.  The fishermen were all after Paddlefish, and with all the gigantic hooks and weights flying through the air, I was frankly worried one of these guys would get caught up.   There were times they'd be so concentrated on scanning the water, that they'd be hovering 30 feet above a boat or fisherman.  Or, in this case...me!!!   He got even closer than this, so close that I only was able to fit about half of him in the frame.

Taken on October 28th, 2007 with Canon 20D, 400 5.6L.

Osprey - Pandion haliaetus
