Merlin Photo

This photo of a Merlin was taken on November 9th, 2008 in Minnehaha County, South Dakota.  A very large flock of Lapland Longspurs was wheeling around the open field where she was looking.   I don't think I'd want to have been one of those longspurs, especially since the feathery fluff on the top of one of these two wooden posts gives some indication that she may have fed on one of them recently.  Photo taken with Canon 40D, 400 5.6L.
