Heermann's Gull Photo

This photo of a Heermann's Gull was taken on December 18th, 2008 at "Land's End", in the northwestern part of San Francisco, along the coast.  There had been an oil spill in the area a little prior to this, and this bird was obviously fouled with oil a bit.  The oil seemed to only be on his breast, but he was vigorously trying to remove it with his bill.  He seemed OK, I just hope he wasn't ingesting the oil as he tried to clean it off.  Photo taken with Canon 50D, 400 5.6L.
