This photo of an adult Burrowing Owl was taken on August 22nd, 2008 in Minnehaha County, South Dakota. I happened to be coming back home from the airport this night, and was passing the location where the owls were. I stopped and found several, all near the road, looking for insects along the sides of a gravel/dirt side road. They were much, much more approachable and less wary of me and my camera than during the daylight hours. Photo taken with Canon 40D, 400 5.6L.
