Junco season has arrived! Woo-hoo! Junco season in South Dakota is the time of year where it sometimes seems as if the only species left alive in the snowy white winter hell are Dark-eyed Juncos. I shouldn't complain...it IS nice having them around, when so many other birds leave for the winter. It is cool to see the variety of plumages, with the prettiest ones we get being the "Oregon" race, as shown below. Very handsome birds.
