Greater Short-horned Lizard Photo

Phrynosoma hernandesi


This photo was taken on September 9th, 2006 south of Alpine, Arizona.  Not that I know a lot about lizards, but while I was expecting to see many in the deserts of Arizona, I wasn't expecting to come across one in a ponderosa pine forest.  This was along side the only highway that heads south from Alpine, weaving through pretty high-elevation ponderosa pine forest.  Taken with Canon 20D, 400 5.6L lens.
