Red-necked Grebe Photo
I had a business trip to Anchorage in June of 2006, and had about a day and a half to do some birding. One of my target species was Red-Necked Grebes, and they turned out to be quite easy to find. Some were nesting on ponds right within Anchorage itself. This one and it's mate were just outside of Anchorage, with their nest in floating vegetation about 10 yards from shore. Whenever I walked by, one of the parents would swim over to check me out. Taken in very early (5:00 AM!!) morning light, with with Canon 20D, 400 5.6L.
